Growing Loving Chickens

Raising loving chickens is easy but does require a bit of work. Chickens must be handled daily to form a trust bond with their caretakers. Beginning at a very young age, lift each chick up by the belly and calmly stroke them on the back or pet them around the head gently. Remember, these little guys have hollow bones and are very fragile.

Roosters And Their Role

Roosters are excellent protectors of their ladies. They fight off predators, sometimes at the expense of their own life. Roosters are also needed if you intend to breed chickens to produce new hens or roosters. Contrary to some beliefs, roosters are not required to have your hens produce eggs.

Egg Variety

Chickens produce a wide variety of different color eggs. Green, white, brown, even black and blues. To determine the color of the eggs your chicken is producing, look at their cheeks. The color of the fleshy part on the side of the head will give you an indication of the color of eggs they will lay.
